about
God's Green Earth began as a little left-of-centre earworm for Southey. While playing around with a looping pedal and guitar, he stumbled upon what would become the verse melody. He then decided it worked better as a vocal melody than a riff, and the rest is history (not even a year, actually).
The song proved popular at live shows as well as Southey's own open mic, at the Imperial Pub. Like "Soften", on a previous EP, the audience helped distinguish the song as uniquely catchy.
""God's Green Earth" or as it could've been called, "Demo-itis: The Song". The vast majority of this song's life has been a poorly recorded, poorly overdubbed, stitched-together voice note. I then played that basic recording on my laptop, and recorded more harmonies into my phone. It was like working with digital scotch tape. When I brought it to Alex, we kept multiple portions of the original demo in order to keep its frayed, worn-in qualities. It's my favourite of this batch. I hope it's yours."

lyrics
You're like a parent counting
But I count high
And it's a faded flower
You smell just like
And I don't know your real name, but
That sounds right
And I don't even love you, but
Just feels right
Just feels right
Comedian
Oh, my mouth
And I don't wanna hear about
Burning towns on God's green earth
And I don't wanna hear about
Burning towns on God's green earth
Says it's his bread and butter, but
Won't take a bite
And ego loves his mother, but
Sleeps with a night light
And I don't know your real name, but
That sounds right
And I don't even love you, but
Just feels right
My comedian
Oh, my mouth
And I don't wanna hear about
Burning towns on God's green earth
And I don't wanna hear about
Burning towns on God's green earth
And I don't wanna hear about
Burning towns on God's green earth
And I don't wanna hear about
Burning towns

Southey's dreamy indie rock lives at the intersection of shoegaze and folk. By fusing these disparate genres together with
cerebral, emotionally insightful songwriting he is one of the most authentic and endearing voices in this generation of Canadian indie musicians.
